Changes to Pickleball Sessions at KRC

3 Apr

Please be advised some changes to Thursday and Saturday pickleball sessions will be occurring come 1st of May. These changes are to achieve two aims:

  1. Provide beginners to pickleball a place to learn the game and play in a way that is comfortable for them.
  2. Create an environment in which intermediate / advanced pickleball players can rotate amongst themselves.

To that end we will be creating a regular beginners session every Thursday from 6pm to 7pm. Myself, Sonia or Alan will look after this group, but feel free to come along and help show pickleball newbies the joys of the game, but there is no expectation. Following the beginners session will be intermediate / advanced, from 7pm to 9pm. The Saturday session will be intermediate / advanced only, from 10am to 1pm.
The way we have chosen of keeping the sessions separate is by means of registration, and we will be using Pickleheads (https://www.pickleheads.com/) for that. It offers us a few advantages, namely:

  • Allows us to cap maximum registrations. We want to have a maximum of 20 per session. Anything more means people wait longer between games.
  • We can lock the registrations down to KRC members only, then open it up to anyone else, closer to the time. In that way we can serve KRC pickleball members first.
  • We can use Pickleheads to assist us in organising pickleball events, something we want to do this year.

This means we need you to register yourself at Pickleheads, and to help you with that we have attached a brief guide. It has a QR code you can use, or alternatively use this link: https://www.pickleheads.com/courts/nz/auckland/kumeu/kumeu-racquets-club-inc
You will begin to see KRC pickleball events being populated, and you can use those to confirm your slot. For example:

  1. When you see the intermediate / advanced session on Thursday 15th May notification (either by email or within the Picklehead site / app), you can register your place in it.
  2. Once the maximum of 20 is reached, no places are left.
  3. If there are slots available a couple of days beforehand, we will open it up to the general public.

Naturally, this will take time to bed-in, so feel free to ask questions, either in person or over email.
Many thanks and we look forward to seeing you!
